And so I update on this blog 5000 years later... Dx

This what some stuff I'm currently working on for class. The bottom ones are some tree silhouette ideations and the top is a finalized design. I chose to refine the bottom corner design from the first page.

The next phase of the tree painting class is to design a tree and put them in an environment like as if it were a screencap from a video game, a film, or an animated feature. My original plan was to make it like as if for an animated feature, but so far it looks more like a video game design - whoops. >__>;

Next phase is to do some composition thumbnails to make a layout. :) Hopefully that goes well. *A*

I spent a lot of time of that tree design on finding a process. I think I spent just as much time setting it up as I did on actually painting it. I think it's a process I'm going to develop more on because once everything's set up the painting portion goes by pretty quickly.

Personal work~! Part of a personal side project I've been working on between classwork. :D

The first one is an OC in a gas mask and cloak. I don't know if this character will ever wear a gas mask officially, but it's just a visual motif I enjoy a lot! This was mainly drawn with a lasso tool which I have learned to love so hard core since the lasso tool can just nail in big shapes and colors so quickly. I wish I thought about using it earlier. ;______;

The second is some thumbnail sketches of some building designs. I'm currently working on doing more fleshed out ideas from a few of them. Will hopefully have a progress report on that soon.

 More info on the project:
As of last week, I've been planning out a side project of doing a concept art thing for a story idea. The current plan is to make it concept art as if for a video game. I based it off of the Art Center portfolios I glanced over.

I wanted to do this to really get into the feeling of doing concept art. I've been too scared to make anything and it's holding me back from trying new things. I've got things to do that I've never really worked on before like buildings, huge landscapes, weapons, props, etc. I'm very nervous but excited to see where this side project takes me.

I'll hopefully find holes in my skill set so that I can fix them instead of ignoring them and never knowing where my biggest weaknesses are.

Classwork I've been working on lately. The teacher wants us to also make a night time version of the tree painting as part of a 'portfolio' set of sorts. She wants to make a day to night wipe. I'm excited for the results! :) And the next phase of the assignment after this is to make a tree design based off of the trees we're painting. Very looking forward to thaatttt~! *A* (Just wish the teacher told us we'd be stuck with these trees for like... forever because my tree is such an inconvenience to get to whenever I want to do studies of it. ;____; )

The second is a Redoute graphite master copy. Words cannot describe how much I dislike using graphite for rendering projects. When I got out my graphite set, it was almost brand new since I stopped using it after the first semester graphite rendering class. =___=;

It is just such a painstaking and slow medium. It's so patience driving.

But the bright side about this assignment is that I can truly see how far I've come in terms of art from this. My first semester in my animation/illustration class was such a disaster. I was clueless and kept messing up everything, I was even ranked pretty low during a class poll thing. But this semester I was put in a 'top' list with some other great classmates by the teacher (who is a tough, tough teacher) and it makes me wish I was as good of a student then as I am now. Maybe I'd be better if that was true, but too late to think on that now, right? xD

On to the future~.c

This is the second main assignment for my digital painting class this semester. I see a lot of stuff I wish I did better on, but I'm trying not to beat myself up too much over it since this is probably the most complete and best painting I've done in my life so far.

I owe so much to my professor Alice Carter this semester. She's a brilliant, but tough teacher. Like, she is tough but her advice sticks so well. I truly hope the improvements from this semester are continuously this fruitful in the end. :)

And sad thing - I like the dandelions better than anything else in the painting. Like, errghhh. Forty hours on that tree and one hour on a dandelion. This world is too much for me. Dx

Work in progress versions of the tree. The bottom two are some messy pencil and watercolor sketches of the tree.

Gonna start off my long hiatus with a small dump of stuff. xD The top is a sketch of a tree for class. The bottom is a painting of it, also for class. My reference was very, very unclear so I didn't know what to make of a lot of what I was looking at for the painting. I tried painting with the marque tool for this one. It looks flat, very flat - but I feel like it has an interesting look to it at least. xD

I am totally ashamed of myself as to how severely this blog was during my Summer vacation. Orz

But for reals, I had a long, relaxed Summer vacation and went studying abroad from September to the end of January. One of the greatest experiences of my life. It was expeeennssivee... but well worth it. +w+ If I had more money and wasn't worried about graduating sooner, I would have loved to stay in England for a full year. But alas, my resources are limited. :/

I'll hopefully talk about it more in some later posts since I did do a few sketches while I was in England and in Europe. (Sadly nothing too exciting xD )

Now, I realize that I haven't updated since I finished my last semester in May... This is quite the problem considering the fact that it's not like I hadn't done anything in that time between then and now. >__> I've just been bad at updating.

I'll be updating by bits instead of putting up everything at once right now. Hopefully that will kick me into being more consistent about having a posting schedule. P:

=============

The top one is different from the other ones which are doodles is that it's a commission piece I did for someone. It's a black and white bust portrait that I did for them. I added a splash of color as an extra effect. I enjoyed the result of this piece and so did the person who commissioned me, so I'm quite satisfied with myself. :)

The two below is a character ideation that I've been working on lately. His name is 'Greg' and he's an awkward guy who has parents who pressure him into various things like being a doctor or trying a ridiculous amount of extra-curricular activities when he's younger.

I wanted to base his personality a bit off of Benjamin Braddock from 'The Graduate' so I ended up basing very subtle points of his facial design off of Dustin Hoffman's face. The main thing I'm trying to capture is the feeling I get from looking at his face when he played Ben in the movie.

I deffo have some sketchbook pages to upload later, but until I scan them I'll just post this digital painting doodle I did today.

I must admit, something about this doodle was somehow very therapeutic to me. Sorta like this rut I've been in when it came to drawing from my imagination.I just decided to have fun with this one and keep a lot of the background color's hue within the skin. I went a bit crazy with the highlights - but this was a fun time doodle so I'll let it go since highlights are so much fun. *A*
