Trying to work out a style for what I am now labeling "Mia's Cast" for my own laziness and personal convenience of mental sorting. (My brain is just a derp machine these days, you see... >__>; )

So far, I think this is the style that's going to stick the most. It still has a degree of sketchiness and general simplicity as a concept for the style. The style was originally based off of how I drew people in my thumbnails. This style is basically a cleaning up of what my thumbnails looked like. I'm going to look at how much more sketchy I can make this because it totally breaks. That would, of course, probably be more effective if I draw out an entire scene.

So, I guess that should be my next step. Drawing a scene with this style. I think I have a general idea of how the set and background is going to look, so I might as well test it out. ONWARDS, THEN!!!

A funny note is that the dress she's wearing on the left was originally blue, but my brother mentioned that the way the dress was designed made her look like a water bender for some reason. That didn't make much sense to me, but I thought it would probably help to change the color scheme, anyways. So... it's red, now. Ah, yeeh...

The picture in the middle was supposed to be based off of a crane fist starting position I saw online - but not quite it. I went through her timeline and I reasoned on this - if she learned any martial arts it was something that was close to crane style, but she probably learned it more as a passing thing upon convenience versus being actually serious about learning it. A friend of her's taught her basic things to protect herself, and that was it. That's more or less why her pose is not a very good crane position, it's more like a mock crane position that's obviously not really correct. Although... I feel like I messed up something, too - because it looks more like she's fast-walking than anything. D'oh! D:

The top is a late-night doodle. It's Ark's girl self - Mia~ :D At the moment I'm writing a plot-story... thing... for her. The story was originally Ark's story, but lately I've been flipping between the two as the main character to see which one I like better as the main character. At the moment, I think I'm very decided with using Mia for various reasons.

First reason is that there are more than enough stories about adventurous boys with awesome adventures. Waaayyy too many of them, in fact. There's no reason why there aren't enough stories that feature girls other than the fact that the media is obsessed with empowering males over females.  The other part was that the entire plot actually makes more sense if she were a girl because a lot of the plot is spent running away from authorities that are looking for a boy with spikey hair. It's just a more flexible plot with more opportunities if she can actually hide while being in the open.

The two characters on the bottom are also from Ark's story. The lady on the left I've drawn before. Her name is Akio, but she goes by "Sand". The other girl is unnamed, but so far I'm dubbing her "Inna". The two are friends but eventually Inna is supposed to find something else to do with her life so Sand goes off with Mia on her adventure-plot thinggg. Yaaayyy O:

The characters at the top are a messy sketch I never finised up. XD

BOTTOM drawing is a request I drew for my friend Domofudge ~ She wanted Tim, Con, and Bart from the Young Justice crew to be dorking it up together. I decided to draw them all watching a movie. XD I wish I did a neater job on this - but complaints are complaints... keep working, right? Haha. One thing I did like is how I managed to light them up and make it look like they're being lit up by a weird screen. Hopefully I'll be able to refine that in a future project, right? : >

A late-night doodle that I uncharacteristically decided not to delete for once because I'm not utilizing the idea of my blog enough... Which is for me to track my personal progress and thoughts, etc.

I've been trying out a lot of new art programs lately. Mainly because of the fact that Photoshop is such a heavy program that it has a high risk of lag and takes too long to start up sometimes when I just want to do small doodles. So far I'm favoring MyPaint (the one I used for this doodle) and FireAlpaca. Both are fairly lightweight programs, and are free.

MyPaint doesn't have a canvas limit and no paintbucket tool, so that's why the edges are all strange and rounded in the bg. I feel like I slightly favor MyPaint because it has no canvas size - it just makes doodling easier and faster without me having to worry about size as I usually tend to draw really big and sloppy. I also like that MyPaint has more brush texture options and such. Sadly, the hot keys are very strange (b=open the brush box instead of just switching to brush mode O:<) and some of the shortcuts are if anything... inconvenient...

The character on the way left and the top right corner is named "Rohan Badal". I drew him earlier... P: Basically, he worked as a waiter through some of his studies, so I wanted to draw him in uniform. He also was a nurse for about a year before quitting because working at a hospital was too depressing for him.

The top messy doodles is of a girl named "Ballari" who is Cameron and Rohan's adopted daughter. She's tomboyish - like one of those spunky girl types? Haha... I dunno. She's also deaf, so the two learn BSL to speak with her. She can talk, though, but has a bit of a "deaf accent". And she reads lips, but it's obviously not as reliable as sign language communication with her, of course.

The character in the middle is named "Darius". He's actually this character with a different look. The character becomes an actor in the future and is one of the main cast in some teen, supernatural show where he plays a "bad boy". The punkette girl (named Gabriella Bannes) is supposed to be another character from that show (her real name is Rosa Aguila)- I'm still working out her design. I'm still working on this with my friend, Yevie. We're hoping this goes somewhere to be a fun webcomic about the show itself. XD

Basically, the show has it's own concrete story and stuff, and the cast for the show talks about it and stuff in side comics and such. My friend and I thought it would be funny because it's sorta like poking fun at the ability to look at yourself from an outside perspective and poke fun at it like a creator would for something. That, and the characters they play aren't the same as their real selves which also means funny commentary.Yeah... we thought it was fun. P:

I noted that I'm not very good at drawing characters with darker skin like... at all. The last time I tried to paint a black person, I ended up painting them in a way that made them look pasty. I worked on this for a bit and I think I'm getting closer to getting it right, but not quite. : / I need to expand my horizons and draw less people who are white and Asian because that's all I seem to draw most of the time. >___> Aahh...

Her hair was actually a lot less painful than I imagined it would be. Since the hair was sort of all over the place, I just made up a lot of the stuff and took a biiig leap of faith as to where to put what shades. It worked well, I think. But I'll of course experiment some more on that. :V

She's supposed to be my character Felicia, but I think I messed up. Not much of her character really came through in the drawing because I got really obsessed with making it look good instead of making it look like the character .=__= Oops. Also, I need to do a texture study on denim material some time... That jacket looks like a plastic blazer or something to me. O_o;

Aaaanywaayss... First three things are commissions I did for some people at Fanime. Fanime was a nice experience and my partners and I made a very great amount of profit considering this was our first time selling, and the fact that our spot was in the back corner facing a wall. =___= (I'm still a bit miffed on that, but oh, well.) The last one has WEIRD colors because it was made in CYMK in order to better accommodate for printing. I swear the blue is NOT that obnoxious in the real file. >_<

My favorite is probably that Link as Kamina one. I wasn't very sure how to execute it since the guy said he wanted the iconic parts of the gear that Link had like his sword and shield. P: I really wanted to show that shield design, but when I positioned it in a way to show off the shield, the pose did not seem as dynamic so I gave up on that thought. D: On the furry commission, I'm going to keep in mind that I need to draw more lizards and stuff. That dragon took me SO long and I'm still not really fond of it. >__>; Agghh... At least the guy liked it.

At the moment I'm planning on selling at Japan Expo at the Santa Clara Convention Center in August. O: It's realllyy pricy, though, which is a big downer, but I hope it will go will if I go, despite it being their first time as a convention. XD Hopefully that will go over well! O:

One last thing is this cup I doodled. :V I'm a bit sick at the moment and without much to do so I told myself to draw whatever was on my table. It's not finished, especially since I spent a lot of time on the cup handle. Turns out I'm not very good at drawing cup handles. O___O I also realized how much black there was on my table. =___= It was a pain in my rear end to separate all the black objects in terms of shape and stuff. I think I mostly got it. If I wanted to continue this some more, I think I would have gone back to render those wires a bit better.
